Advertising claims: keep them careful
On 13 November 2024 the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) notified the Guidelines for Prevention of Misleading Advertisement in Coaching Sector, 2024 under section 18 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Among other things, they treat these as misleading: false claims about courses, duration, faculty credentials, fees or refund policy; false claims about the number of selections, ranks or success rates; and promises such as guaranteed selection, ranks or admission. They also ban creating a false sense of urgency, and they require written consent from a successful candidate, taken after their selection, before you use their name, photo or testimonial in an advertisement.
